The H2308 is an adapter sleeve that mounts a bearing with a tapered bore onto a 35 mm plain shaft. It sits between the shaft and the bearing bore, so the bearing can be located, locked and later released without machining a shoulder or a stepped seat onto the shaft.
The sleeve is slit and tapered. Tightening the lock nut draws the bearing up the taper, which expands the bearing inner ring and produces the interference fit the assembly needs. That makes the H2308 the usual choice for general industrial drive systems, where a plain shaft is easier to produce and where the bearing has to be adjusted or replaced on site.
